LAW SCHOOL
The Director of IvySelect, Michael Goran, brings the real-world experience of an educational consultant and practicing attorney to the law school admissions process. His insights into life at law school, passing the bar, and working as an attorney serve as a valuable touchstone for the college graduate seeking to become a lawyer. His first-hand knowledge of law school applications, essays, interviewing techniques and standardized testing are combined with strategic positioning to help you achieve superior admissions results and garner a "best fit" educational experience.
The process for a rising graduate school student is different and more narrowly focused than that for the student involved in the college admissions process. We help you substantiate your passion and preparation for law school study. Consulting may be done for one aspect of law school admissions or the entire process, as needed.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
IvySelect serves as a bridge to American colleges for those from abroad. The Director of IvySelect, Michael Goran, has traveled extensively to international destinations. He is sensitive to the unique cultural and educational barriers that international students face. Mr. Goran will help you navigate the imposing array of social, educational, financial and immigration issues that stand between you and your desire to attend a top American school.
At IvySelect, we assist you in your college search process. Your knowledge about various regions of the United States may be limited. An understanding not only of academic programs, but also of contrasts in school environments is crucial for those from abroad. We provide other critical knowledge to the international student: the knowledge that will allow you to be a competitive applicant at elite colleges, as well as providing the knowledge that will assist you in making an informed decision about your college choices.
The admissions process at selective and highly-selective U.S. schools is nuanced and very likely will be unfamiliar to you. Don't worry - we assist you in bringing your best to the application process. By providing personalized, in-depth counseling, we are able to understand your background, your needs and your goals.
Our virtual office capabilities allow you to interact with IvySelect in a seamless manner, obviating the need for in-person meetings. We encourage you, though, to visit the colleges on your list, if possible. This is the best way to get the feel of a college. If you cannot travel to schools, we provide alternate mechanisms to help you find a great match. Because of our individualized counseling, we really get to know you. If you're unable to travel to the U.S., you can remain confident that we will "paint a complete picture" and help you find a "best fit" college where you will be happy and successful.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Students transfer into other colleges for many different reasons. Some may not have adequately researched their choices in high school, and find that their current college is not what they hoped it would be. (Professional independent counselors can help avoid these problems!) Many students are looking to "upgrade" from their current school to a college from which they may have previously been rejected, or which provides a more challenging academic environment.
Pursuing your dream school at the college level is more daunting than going thorough the process as a high-school senior. Your coursework is more arduous. Your responsibilities are greater. The prospect of admission to a school you're interested in may be extremely limited. (For example, Middlebury College recently admitted just 1 of 230 transfer applicants.) Then, too, colleges want to see a compelling reason for transfer (e.g., a major that is unavailable at your school; the need for smaller classes and more contact with professors.)
IvySelect responds to the unique needs of transfer students in the application and college selection process by offering the following services:
- Guidance on the transfer process at your current school
- Analysis of college record & background (including high school record)
- Standardized re-testing advisement
- Extracurricular activities evaluation
- School selection
- Application assistance
- Essay development: crystallize your compelling reason(s) for transferring
- Interviewing techniques/mock interviews
- Letters of recommendation guidance - great faculty recommendations can be crucial
- Strategic positioning: ameliorating weaknesses, emphasizing strengths
